Project Overview:

Custom Fresh Air Intake System for Centrifugal Air Equipment

Pipeworks Mechanical was contracted to design, fabricate, and install a custom fresh air intake assembly for a centrifugal air system at the Secaucus, New Jersey water treatment facility. The project was part of ongoing infrastructure improvements intended to ensure reliable operation of the plant’s well tank pressurization system.

Project Scope

The scope of work involved the in-house design and fabrication of a custom fresh air hood engineered to integrate with the facility’s centrifugal air equipment. The system was designed to introduce a controlled volume of fresh air through a dedicated fan assembly, maintaining proper pressure levels within the well tanks and supporting overall system performance.

Key components of the project included:

  • Custom design of the fresh air intake hood

  • In-house fabrication for precise fit and durability

  • Integration with existing centrifugal air system

  • Installation within an active municipal treatment facility

  • Coordination to minimize disruption to plant operations

Engineering & Fabrication

Because of the specific layout and operational demands of the facility, a standard off-the-shelf solution was not suitable. Pipeworks Mechanical fabricated the fresh air hood in-house to meet the dimensional, airflow, and durability requirements of the system.

The fabricated assembly was designed to:

  • Withstand the environmental conditions typical of a sewer and water treatment facility

  • Provide consistent, controlled airflow

  • Integrate seamlessly with the centrifugal air system

  • Support long-term, low-maintenance operation

Installation & Integration

The installation was completed by Pipeworks Mechanical’s field team, ensuring precise alignment and secure integration with the existing mechanical infrastructure. Work was performed with careful coordination to maintain continuous plant operations and meet the performance expectations of a critical municipal facility.

Project Outcome

The completed system now delivers controlled fresh air into the centrifugal air system, helping maintain proper pressurization of the well tanks and supporting reliable plant performance. The custom-fabricated solution provides a durable, purpose-built component designed specifically for the facility’s operational needs.
